I’m excited to showcase the first month of my collaboration with Blackbox Curation which will last from January – March. Blackbox is a lifestyle monthly subscription box that features products from 5 different categories, all from Black-owned businesses. It’s a great and effortless way to stay abreast of the many Black-owned companies that are providing exceptional products. Each month I will be showcasing products that I received as well as information on how I incorporate them into my lifestyle. Keep up with my Instagram stories to learn how I use these products throughout my day to day life.
‘Do You Remember The Time’ Valentine’s Day card from Nostalgia Collect
This first reveal was this super quirky greeting card from Nostalgia Collect. I can be a bit playful and carefree and I love being able to find items that are unconventional and are a complete reflection of who I am. My “Do You Remember The Time” Valentine’s Day card features a charismatic illustration of the King of Pop with part of the verse from his song accompanying him. The card is left blank on the inside so that you will be able to write your own personal love note to your significant other. It’s a super cute way to remind your lover of the first time that you fell in love with one another.
2. Cleansing Condition from Hair Brew
The Hair Brew Cleansing Conditioner was my second favorite item that I received in this month’s box. I’m always on the quest to find the perfect product to suit my current natural hair needs. Finding the perfect one can be a long process of trial and error. This cleansing conditioner offered generous slip, was extremely moisturizing, and was thick enough to coat my dense 4c strands. Although this was the only product that I used from this brand, using their conditioner left my parched strands feeling soft and supple for the entire day. The conditioner is formulated with Aloe Vera, Rosemary & Honeysuckle Extracts that assists in cleansing the hair without stripping it of its natural moisture.
This was my second favorite product that I received in this month's @blackboxcuration subscription box. (I'll reveal my ultimate favorite item tomorrow.) 🌸Performing a wash and go is my ultimate go-to style since it's low maintenance and allows me to add daily hydrating products to my hair. I'm constantly searching for conditioners that are packed with moisture, has enough slip to glide through my type-4 strands, and has a thick consistency to saturate my kinks. Hair Brew's cleansing conditioner has ALL of these qualities!! The conditioner is formulated with Aloe Vera, Rosemary & Honeysuckle Extracts that assists in cleansing the hair without stripping it of its natural moisture. – – @blackboxcuration is a lifestyle subscription box that features products from 5 different categories. 3. ‘I Support Black-Owned Business’ Pin from Rock Candy Earrings
Many who follow The Co Report and both of my Instagram channels know that I’m passionate about supporting Black-owned businesses. The ‘I support Black-owned businesses’ pin from Rock Candy Earrings showcases my ideologies in uplifting the Black community through group economics. For just about everything that’s desired, there’s a Black business that’s producing it, and most times, of better quality. Patronizing Black business shouldn’t be a task or a short-lived reaction that you do in protest of mistreatment. Supporting Black-owned businesses on a consistent basis should be an unspoken rule that you live by. When you spend your dollars with a Black company the Black dollar stays within the community for a longer length of time and you are assisting with reducing crime, creating jobs, building up Black communities, and providing economic prosperity.
4. Sour Cream and Onion Chips from Detroit Friends Potato Chip Company
Okay! These sour cream and onion chips from Detroit Friends Potato Chip Company was my ABSOLUTE favorite item! I’ve recently converted to the vegan lifestyle and I’m always on the search for healthy snack alternatives. They are made with locally sourced potatoes from Michigan and each potato is sliced thick to ensure the ultimate crunch. The sour cream and onion flavor weren’t overbearing and didn’t leave a lingering aftertaste. These chips were every bit of delicious and contained no artificial ingredients and were without meat or dairy products.
5. Plum Seed Acrylic Paint from La Shonetay Art Supplies
Back in my college days, my passion was lingerie design. I would create fashion illustrations of women donning huge colorful afros and wearing sultry lingerie designs. After a while, I stopped skitching to pursue other ventures in life. Receiving the Plum Seed acrylic paint from La Shonetay Art Supplies was nostalgic of my creative past and has encouraged me to pick up where I left off. For those who enjoy painting or wish to start, the acrylic paint has a smooth and even consistency that allows you to make longer strokes.
6. Decorative Switchplate covers from Deco Art Manufactures
Now when I say that there’s just about nothing that we don’t create, I mean it! I would have never thought of decorative switch plate covers. I’ve been on a quest to learn more about the many African cultures, countries, and spiritualities residing on the continent. These decorative switchplate covers from Deco Art Manufactures with African-esque designs couldn’t have come at a better time. I finally have an excuse to redecorate. Either of the switch plate cover would be a great addition to anyone wishing to add a little artistic flair when designing the interior of their home or office.
Buying products from Black-owned businesses shouldn’t be a daunting task. Blackbox Curation makes it easy for you to be introduced to the many high quality and wonderful Black-owned brands. Being able to receive this month’s subscription lead me to discover Hair Brew’s Cleansing Conditioner which is a product that I will be adding regularly to my natural hair care regimen.
